One Month to GO!

With just five weeks left in the Majesta Trees of Knowledge contest, Thor College still needs your daily votes!

To keep us in the running for a $20,000 Outdoor Classroom, remember to vote DAILY at www.majesta.com. And remember, one random voter will receive $10,000 from Majesta for simply voting!

We've had a lot of recent opportunities to promote our great school and our participation in the Majesta contest:

  • Wednesday April 11: Rogers TV did a newspiece on Thor College and the Majesta contest. They toured our school and interviewed several Thor College students about the contest and the green curriculum. We look forward to seeing our students on Barrie TV!
  • Saturday April 14: Thor College will be canvassing for votes at the Alcona Sobey's (Innisfil Beach Road) from 10 am - 4 pm. We will have a computer on-site to encourage people to vote! Come out and vote on that day!
  • Wednesday April 18: Our official Media Kick-off Day! Local news reporters, community members, and the Thor College Parent Association (TCPA) will be at the school to see the plans for our Outdoor Classroom, and engage with our students about the contest.
Keep supporting the little school with a big heart! Every vote counts.

Play Again....and Vote Again

Thor College is thrilled to be one of Ontario's only "country" schools. Our unique, 100 acre setting allows our students to constantly interact with nature in an immersive, natural environment.

Not only do we grow our own vegetables, have our own barn and animals, enjoy a naturalized stream in our "backyard".....but we study, observe, classify, and understand life cycles in ways that books and computers can't provide.

As if we needed more reinforcement that the natural world is crucial to education, how about this new documentary talking about what happens when childhood is devoid of nature?

Take a look at the trailer for "Play Again," an upcoming documentary that asks what effects "screen time" has on a child's understanding of the natural world.

And, consider voting for Thor College at www.majesta.com to help us win an Outdoor Classroom! We can integrate even more of the environment into our curriculum with this generous prize from Majesta Paper. Please vote daily! And remember, one lucky voter will be randomly selected to win $10,000 from Majesta, just for voting.

Check out one of our many current green initiaves.....

Last fall our students harvested corn, potatoes, sunflowers, pumpkins and squash from our garden. Not only did this give students the opportunity to learn about growth cycles, the food was used in our school's lunch program.

Thor College is a National Top Ten Finalist!

Great news for Thor College in Innisfil, Ontario!

Thor College has been accepted as a Top 10 Finalist in the Majesta "Trees of Knowledge" National Competition!

The Majesta Trees of Knowledge Competition offers $20,000 to schools to focus on creating an Outdoor Classroom and improve environmental education.

In addition to erecting a greenhouse, Thor College plans to use the funds to expand on our "Greening the Curriculum" initiatives -- which includes building a butterfly and songbird garden, planting several endangered Butternut trees, and expanding our vegetable and fruit tree garden.

Last year, Thor College planted 200 trees on our beautiful 100 acre country campus, grew herbs and vegetables that were harvested for our school lunch program, and built and erected birdhouses for American Robins, House Wrens, and Barn Swallows. Thor College is also home to several horses, ponies, cows, cats, and a dog, and has a naturlized stream running directly through the country property.

From March 28th to May 11th, Thor College friends and supporters can vote at www.majesta.com and help us win our Outdoor Classroom.
